The Directory of Knots was written by John Shaw. If you’ve ever wondered what some of the world’s most famous knots are, this book can show you and show you how to tie them, too. In addition to the most famous knots, this book shows some of the most useful and practical knots, the most traditional knots, innovative knots, along with many useful variations! Who knows how many knots you will learn to tie just from reading this book. I sure have learned a lot!
Overall, I would have to give this book 4 stars. What do you think?
Warriors was written by James Harpur. Unlike most of the books I’ve talked about here, this one isn’t a novel. It’s more of an historical encyclopedia. Though the way that Jarmes Harpur wrote the book makes it more fun for kids to read, and it’s filled with really neat graphics and photos.
The book is all about warriors throughout history, starting with the Assyrians and ending with the Zulu warriors. It shows some of the weapons the warriors used and describes their cultures and societies. It also includes detailed maps and various battle formations the warriors used. One formation, called “the horns of the beast,” was effective against even the great British armies.
This book is good for kids who like to learn about history and different warriors and cultures. I give this book a 4-star rating.
The Thief Lord was written by Cornelia Funke. It is about orphaned kids who work as pickpockets and thugs. They live in an abandoned theater with their leader, the Thief Lord. The Thief Lord is a master of stealing and is not always truthful. What’s more, he leads a secret double life. Will the other kids found out? Will they be able to escape their life of crime? Read it and find out.
This book is good for kids in fourth grade and up. It is a very exciting book filled with suspense. I would recommend any of Cornelia Funke’s books. I also give this book 4 stars.
The Magic Tree House book series was written by Mary Pope Osborne. There are lots of them and they are really good for kids in the 2nd and 3rd grade. You could just pick up any of them and read, though I would recommend reading the first book first so that you get the basic idea of the stories.
The series is about two kids who discover a magic tree house that can take them inside the books they read. There’s always something important for the kids to fix or do on their adventures. Do they always succeed? Read and find out! Books in the series include “The Knight at Dawn,” “Pirates Past Noon,” “Twister on Tuesday,” “Night of the Ninjas,” and “Summer of the Sea Serpent.” It would be hard to rate them because they’re all different, but I’d give them maybe 3 stars out of five.
All Because of a Cup of Coffee was written by Geronimo Stilton, which is also the name of the main character. Every morning Geronimo gets a cup of coffee. One morning at the coffee shop a pretty mouse spills her coffee on him. When he looks at her something happens, and from then on he can think of nothing but her.
This was a fun book to read and it is funny sometimes how Geronimo tries to prove his love and win the pretty mouse’s heart. I think this book would be great for kids ages 8 and up. I give it 4 stars. What do you think?
Santa Mouse and the Ratdeer was written by Thacher Hurd. A mouse family is preparing for Santa Mouse to come, but Santa Mouse is having some trouble up at the North Pole and something happens on his way to his first stop. Will that stop Christmas? Read it and find out.
This book is good for children around the ages of 4 to 6. I enjoyed this short book and give it 3 stars. What do you think?
The book, My Teacher is an Alien was written by Bruce Coville. It is about 2 kids who discover that their teacher is an alien and that the real one is trapped in his own house. Together the kids try to get rid of the alien, but that is going to be a challenge.
Will they figure out a way to get rid of the alien? Can they save their teacher or will everything be changed forever? Read it and find out.
Bruce Coville is an excellent author and I would recommend any of his books. I give this one 3 stars. What do you think?
The book Time Stops For No Mouse was written by Michael Hoeye. It is about a normal mouse who gets mixed up in a scheme to find the elixir of life. He learns secrets he probably doesn’t want to know.
In this adventure he makes new friends and meets his true love. In the end, he is betrayed and his heart broken. What caused the betrayal? Do they find the elixir of life? Read it and find out.
I enjoyed this book and give it 4 stars out of five. What did you think of this one?
The book Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo was written by Obert Skye. It is about a place called Foo, where the inhabitants are all kinds of mythical creatures that are supposed to make dreams of mankind possible.
But all is not well. Evil Sabine wants to fuse reality and Foo together. If reality and Foo are combined, all of mankind would die. A girl named Winter joins a boy named Leven, and each of them has unique powers. Winter can make things frozen solid by imagining them in ice and Leven can see the future and maniuplate it. Together they work to stop Sabine.
This was one of my favorite books. I give it 5 stars out of five! Do you agree?
The book The Blue Ghost was written by Marion Dane Bauer. it is about a girl named Liz who starts seeing a ghost that keeps calling here name and pointing to a trunk to which Liz can't find the key. Later, the ghost thinks Liz is here guardian angel. The ghost's baby is sick and she wants Liz to help cure its disease.
