Magic Tree House Series

The Knight at Dawn

The Magic Tree House book series was written by Mary Pope Osborne. There are lots of them and they are really good for kids in the 2nd and 3rd grade. You could just pick up any of them and read, though I would recommend reading the first book first so that you get the basic idea of the stories.

The series is about two kids who discover a magic tree house that can take them inside the books they read. There’s always something important for the kids to fix or do on their adventures. Do they always succeed? Read and find out! Books in the series include “The Knight at Dawn,” “Pirates Past Noon,” “Twister on Tuesday,” “Night of the Ninjas,” and “Summer of the Sea Serpent.” It would be hard to rate them because they’re all different, but I’d give them maybe 3 stars out of five.

I hope you had a good Christmas, Evan. This is a good book review. What do you think of the lettering on the cover? I like the cover design.

Hi Evan,
My nephew is your age and since we don’t have kids, my husband and I don’t have any idea what books to get for him. Can you tell me what some of your favorites are? (If you don’t mind, I may come back around birthday time to ask your opinion on a suitable gift.) Great review- keep up the good work.

Evan…what a neat site, and what fun to find that you have not only become a reader, but an encourager of reading for others! I’m reading the most wonderful series of books right now…the Mitford series. Don’t know how I missed them when they first came out. I’m reading Weedflower to my class. It started a little slow, but I think it will be a good book. They’re interested. Carry on. I’m very proud of you! DW

Evan, you might consider reading ENDER’S GAME, a story about a boy your age in a space combat school. There is a whole Ender series, but this is the best by far – how the military deceives a boy into totally defeating the alien enemy.

Hi Evan,

I stumbled across your site after reading an awesome essay your dad wrote. As a reader, I think your site is wonderful; as a designer, I think it’s splendid. I’m not sure how old you are, but I have two sons, ages 8 and 5. They both love love love to read, too. My oldest just finished the Spiderwick series, and is now reading Holes. Have you read it? It’s really clever. I’ll tell my boys to check out your terrific site.
Cheers,
Kelli Lewis

Hi Evan, I too ran across your site after reading something on your dad’s site. I felt compelled to submit this little entry into your blog for a number of reasons. You write extremely well … just like your father. The books reviewed and some references by others would indicate that you’re fairly young, but your writing style and maturity would indicate that you’re an adult … Keep up the good work. And, give your parents a big hug; they seem to have done a wonderful job in raising you! Real-Name-Omitted
